Location: Schaatsbaan Vlieland | Artist: Tamar Frank
Into the Great Wide Open is a music and art festival on the small island of Vlieland. As part of the Art @ Night route I created an installation at a small inlet of a pond. 500 led lights were installed between the reeds depicting a colony of fireflies. These pulsated softly in the resting stage. As people approached the work in the darkness they activated a disturbance causing the swarm to fly up and move around in a circular motion. Eventually the small creatures would calm down a regain their original pulse.
This installation is a follow up of a work established last year for Glow 2011. In December it will be reinstalled for the Amsterdam Light festival behind the Hortus Botanicus.
